Dr. Caroline Bessey
Caroline Bessey, MD, was born and raised in eastern North Carolina and is the middle child of three. Most of her time growing up was spent on the softball field or volleyball court when she wasn’t in school. She attended Appalachian State University where she competed on their D-1 volleyball team and graduated with a BS in Exercise Science and a minor in Chemistry. This is where she fell in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains and knew she would one day call them home.
She completed medical school at ECU Brody School of Medicine in 2021, with a distinction as a service-learning scholar. She completed Family Medicine Residency at the MAHEC Hendersonville Family Medicine Program. She served as chief resident during her time there, where she was able to advocate for resident well-being and act as a liaison between faculty and residents.
Her primary medical interests include: women’s health, office procedures, substance use disorders and lifestyle medicine. She is board-certified in Family Medicine with an upcoming completion of fellowship training through the MAHEC Rural Fellowship.
Some of her interests outside of medicine include hiking with her husband, daughter and fur child, kayaking, Young Harris sporting events (Go Mountain Lions!), and traveling.
